Ioford is a health stimulant for budgerigars which contains iodine, iron, calcium, zinc, magnesium and vitamin D. It is used in conjunction with DufoPlus to improve colour intensity, fertility and egg quality during breeding and as a stress reliever. Ioford is also used to invigorate the show bird prior to showing. 

Ioford contains iron and iodine at the correct levels. Iodine is the most important trace element for a good moult and for successful breeding, but in overdose retards the thyroid gland and therefore depresses breeding performance and retards the moult. Many fanciers use iodine and iron but very few if any know the exact requirements for the budgerigar. An overdose of iron damages the liver. Iron given at the correct levels enhances health and accelerates the recovery from stress or illness. It is also necessary for the young developing aviary birds when the nutritional requirements for moulting and muscle development are complex and demanding.
